The Paving Updates

By Bill Constantine 02 Apr, 2021
Last season our team succesfully paved a man made swimming pond. I know it sounds crazy but this was definetly a first for us. Each year we had prepared the color coatings on the pool deck for the the open house and summer season. The only problem was the asphalt had started to deterioate seeing as it is under water for most of the year cuasing a hazard for the members and their guests. Our customer had reached out in hopes of being able to have the project completed as a turn key opperation. It turns out to be the biggest puddle we have ever paved. As a paving contractor those are not the words you want your company associated with. But this was an oppurtunity we couldnt pass up. We had milled the area at the bottom of the pool where the filter system is located. Once we had it milled and swept we applied tack to the whole area. The slope was about 15% at the steepest point. It doesnt sound like much but when you put a steel track paver on the slope you begin to slide around. We shimed the areas that we needed to and began to lay the asphalt. We had to load most of the asphalt with a skid steer. The slope was to steep to back a truck up to our Leeboy paver. After all was said and done we put down about 400 tons that day. Once 3 weeks had passed we came back to put the coatings on the pool. Our customer chose a blue to mimic the caribbean in the middle of Connecticut. A week later the pool was filled up just in time for their guests to enjoy. Check out some of the pictures below
